Kitchen Wars with SCD yogurt

I finally decided I was up to the challenge of trying to make SCD yogurt at home. Making yogurt at home is something I have been toying with for a long while after having read about the benefits in ‘Breaking the Viscious Cycle’ by Elaine Gottschall. I was intimidated.I don’t have a yogurt maker, but I read that I could make yogurt in my oven. I watched a fabulous video on Salad in a Jar by Paula Rhodes (http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/skinny-secrets/healthy-homemade-greek-yogurt).

I’m not so sure it turned out. Like everything I make, I am left wondering…is this right? This is my second batch. I threw out the first one. It didn’t thicken as much as I would have liked, or as much as I had expected it to. I am not really sure if it will have the benefits it should. It tastes okay..so I guess I will keep this batch.

I was so thankful to Paula at Salad In a Jar for answering my cries while I was experimenting with this. I was actually so surprised that she replied to my email, and so elated that I had connected to someone “out there” that took a minute out of their day to help me with mine. She inspired me to start my own blog. Thus..my first post is about yogurt.

  1. Congratulations on your new blog! It can be a great learning experience.

Please don’t give up on the yogurt. It is worth the trouble if you love yogurt. Once you get it down, you won’t believe how easy it is.

    • I hope so! Maybe I will use a different starter? I used the oven method and turned the oven on to 350 degrees for a minute, then left the bowl in overnight. Maybe I checked it too soon… I will try again. I need this to work 🙂
